When computer and communications technologies are combined, the result is information technology, or "infotech". There is a swift convergence in the areas of computing and communications as a result of relations developing in the data and information environment .IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases, data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design as well as the management and administration of entire systems.

About the Department

The Information Science & Engineering programme at SAIT was started in 2001, and is designed to prepare students to gain extensive knowledge of tools and techniques of information processing. These days we need connectivity of data across the globe and we need it at the click of the mouse. That is the challenge Information Technology has to meet. The department is well known for consistent performance in academic results and placement.

The department has splendid Computer labs. The department attracts projects from outside and develops the software in its own project Lab by eminent faculty in associate with students. The department offers an undergraduate course of eight semesters, as per the VTU syllabus leading to a bachelor’s degree in information science.

Electronics and communication have become part and parcel of the present industry. ‘Electronics is the brain of Modern Technology.’ It is an evergreen subject that provides opportunities for technicians in the following areas of Engineering like Maintenance and service, Research , Production Control, Quality Control and Marketing. The program strives to build a new generation of engineers who can innovate new development program which includes Embedded technology, VLSI, Digital Communication, Wireless Communication, Operating System, Advanced Programming Languages etc…

The Department of ECE was started in the year 2001. It strives for excellence in imparting technical knowledge, skills and ability to its students, not only theoretical but practically also. The goal of the Department is to create professionals who are well versed with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism so that mundane jobs are taken away from men or women to machines. The entertainment & leisure industries exist since Electronics & Communication engineers exist.

The department is well established with state of art technology to impart knowledge for future industrial and educational needs. It is furnished with sound laboratories outfitted with hi-tech instruments, internet and computer systems. It has class rooms with audio-visual teaching aids. The department is completely networked. It has well experienced faculties from reputed industries and institutions. The department has been made almost paperless office. It is well integrated by standalone seminar hall and supporting auditorium to conduct seminars, workshops and training. 

Department Activities: 

  • The department is a proud member of IEEE , IETE and ISTE.
  • The Department regularly conducting various University level and National Level workshops, seminars, conferences, Faculty development Programs, etc… round the year.
  • The Department conducts EC-DAY: Department Day since from 2004 which attracts many students from various colleges of ECE branch to exhibit their cultural, sports and technical talents.
  • The Department Every year conducts Project Exhibition for their Students.
  • Well planned and systematic Lesson Plan and monitoring is carried out throughout the semester to cover the 100% syllabus and preparing the students to face the main exams confidently.

Engineering is profession of acquiring and applying scientific economic, social and practical knowledge in order to design and build structures, machines, devices, systems and processes.
Mechanical Engineering plays a dominant role in enhancing safety, economic vitality, enjoyment and overall quality of life throughout the world. There are only three ways of generating wealth agriculture, mining and manufacturing.

This is where Mechanical Engineering plays dominant role in wealth creation.

The role of Mechanical Engineer is to take a product from an idea to market place. Mechanical Engineers are concerned with the principles of force, energy and motion. The men and women who work as Mechanical Engineers are professionals with expert knowledge of the design and manufacture of mechanical system and thermal devices and processes.

Industrial sectors in which Mechanical Engineers have traditionally made substantial contribution include aerospace, automotive, chemical, computers and electronics, construction, consumer products, and energy. In addition Mechanical Engineers joined forces with the life sciences by contributing for the development of medical and pharmaceutical industries. Even entertainment industry heavily on Mechanical Industries for special effects and amusement equipment. The vast majority of this work is done in thousands of companies ranging from large multi-nationals to small firms.

Some examples of products and processes developed by Mechanical Engineers include engines and control systems for automobiles and aircrafts, railway trains, electric power generation plants, medical devices and consumer products ranging from ai-conditioners to personal computers and athletic equipment. They design machines that mass produce the products. Virtually every aspect of life is touched by Mechanical Engineering. If something moves or uses energy Mechanical Engineer was probably involved in its design and production.

The explosive development and expansion in computer Technology has literally changed the face of Mechanical Engineering. The drawing board has given way to Computer Aided Design (CAD) and sophisticated computational software tools enabled Mechanical Engineers to develop efficient solutions to complex real-world problems. Emerging high-tech field of Nano-Technology is attracting Mechanical Engineers to design ultr-miniature machines, tiny implantable medical devices that navigate the human body searching for disease and damaged tissue. 

The continuing efforts by Mechanical Engineers to design and recycle products and develop equipment and processes to mitigate existing environmental problems and prevent their occurrence.

Future technologies and a host of others will have an impact on the lives of the people and development and refinement require skills, intuition, and creative ability of Mechanical Engineers. At the same time, Mechanical Engineers are expected to understand and convey the real-world consequences of technology development alternatives to decision makers and public.
